In the twin Basics course, you are introduced to the simulation software twin and learn its core concepts. Based on the design data of a real machine, you build a digital twin step by step. After the course, you will be able to engineer your own machines with twin.

Target audience

The course is aimed at people in the engineering field — design, control technology, electrical planning and related disciplines — who want to represent machine concepts, special-purpose or production machines as digital twins with physical properties. The goal is to carry out cycle-time analyses, feasibility studies and virtual commissioning, and to provide the digital twin as a mirror for the master control system and HMI.

Benefits & objectives

You are introduced to the simulation software twin and learn its core concepts. Along the way, you also learn how entire machines with material transport are built. After the course, you will be able to engineer your own machines with twin.

Topics & content

Based on the design data of a machine, you learn and apply the concepts and principles of twin. At the end of the course, the machine is functional and controlled via an external PLC. The following topics are covered:

  • Interface and navigation
  • Assemblies and 3D objects
  • Physical collisions between 3D objects
  • Simulation components and their concept
  • PLC connection and handling
  • Physical material properties
  • Advanced collision detection for complex geometries
  • Robot connections and their concept
  • Creating and reusing library elements
  • Diagnostic options
  • Best practices
  • Simulation of dynamic systems
  • Multiphysics simulations with Functional Mock-up Units (FMU)
